[ Ens. Cara Siobhan Ross | NX-04 Discovery | Earth Drydock 2 ] Attn: Absinthe The heat in Cara's cheeks lingered for the duration of the lift ride down from the main bridge to E-Deck. If memory served, this was the widest point of the primary hull, in all directions. Sickbay was on this deck, and Cara knew that like all crew she'd be expected to cycle through there at some point. A part of her wondered if she needed to head there now, given her reaction to the Commander standing next to her. Ye a daft git if yer feeling all a fluster o're yer Captain, Cara Ross. That didn't change the fact that Cara felt rather warm, and was well aware of the towering woman. She felt the blondes eyes on her, flicking away, and then back again, and wondered if the Commander was just trying to sort out how to have small talk with a junior officer. This could be just as awkward for Saugn as it was for Ross, the latter realized. are the bloody environmental systems properly calibrated? or is there some damned fool bug playin' wit th'temperature in this wee lift.Resolving to run a level one diagnostic on the life support systems when she was finished with her peek at the sensors, Cara turned her head to look up at the ship's Captain as the lift doors opened. She;d been asked a question and bless her, she had to think for a moment before she could summon a response. "Ah'm afraid this is mah first trip t'any NX-class, mu-Cap'n, Refit or otherwise," she answered as they stepped out onto E-Deck, the lift doors closing behind them. To Cara it looked like the other decks she'd seen so far, but even though she knew the halls were wider than the last ship she'd been on, her company and the scrutiny she was preceiving made the corridors seem terribly tight. She reached up, unconsciously, and undid the button of her black shirt collar, at the nape of her neck, to get a little more air on her skin. "Ahside from th'shuttle pod tha' brought me up, ah've only been posted t'a Ganges-class warp Delta, fer mah cadet cruise," her voice fell a little now, as she remembered the ill fated voyage. Those halls were much, much narrower than these were. And full of so much smoke. She swallowed and continued, "and ah was very briefly aboard one of th' Intrepid, but just fer a few 'ours, at th'end o'mah cadet cruise."

[ Olivia Saugn | Corridor -> Sensor Control | NX-04 Discovery | Earth Drydock 2 ] attn: brutus It was not a long walk from the lift to the main sensor array systems. Olivia did her best to walk alongside the young ensign. She had to remind herself of the age difference between them, remind herself of the rank difference, remind herself that she could not, should not, do anything that would not look good on her record. " I read your file, it sounds like that cadet cruise went far from smoothly," Olivia replied, doing her best to sound sympathetic. Empathy was not one of her strong points. She was barely in touch with her own feelings, let alone those of others. " With any luck, our mission will be far less traumatic than that was, for everyone's sake, your's included." She paused there for a second, the subject seemed to be a tender one and she did not want to linger on it. "Though I hope you are finding the Discovery to be up to par, she's been through a lot already, but she is also one of the top of the line ships in the fleet," Olivia said as they reached the door to the sensor room. With a finger, she tapped in her access code, like all of the most sensitive areas of the ship there was a door lock and every person approved to enter the area had an access code. The door slid open and Olivia stepped into the main hub of the sensor array. This was where the direct feed for the array was fed into the main computer, where it could be accessed throughout the ship. " And here she is, our brand-spanking' new sensor relay system. The system access hatch is under the console, but it's not overly likely you'll need to worry about that any time soon." Olivia smiled and moved to the console to unlock it, pulling up the raw sensor data. She let the data stream across the screen as the sensors did their thing. There were multiple feeds and the data seems to flash by at incredible speed as it moved to the main computer to be processed. " What do you think?"

[Sergeant Raquel Ruiz | MACO Unit | Starship Discovery NX-04 | Earth Drydock 2] attn: Absinthe
Upon closer inspection, Raquel realized the senora was a nurse. And a civilian. Ordinarily, she had no problems with civilian volunteers; sometimes one doesn’t need to enlist to play a crucial role in a ship or in a military unit. However, the senora was peculiar.
Raquel suddenly realized the senora was a Vulcan. She had seen them before; she had seen such skin tones before. The senora was peculiar indeed, Raquel never met a Vulcan smile before. In fact, Raquel was sure Vulcans never even smile. What was the senora, an exception in the Vulcan gene pool?
“My apologies, Senora,” Raquel said. “I wondered if you were lost, unless you have business in the MACO unit. A physical check-up on los muchachos could be helpful, but if you have other matters to attend to, don’t let me stop you.”
She then added, in an afterthought, “In case you don’t know what Senora means, of course, it’s a term of respect, like saying madam or ma’m.”

[ Ens. Cara Siobhan Ross | NX-04 Discovery | Earth Drydock 2 ] Attn: Absinthe Cara bit her lip a bit at that, nodding, slowly. Her eyes dropped down again, old memories chasing away the mild infatuation with her commander, and the lingering awkwardness between them that the younger woman had just been starting to really pick up on. The bodies, lining the cramped corridor. Smoke filling the air. The alert klaxon bleating in the darkness. Carrying the wounded to the shuttles, as the the oxygen slowly bled away. She could remember the moment the grav plating gave out, and she kicked up, into the air, spinning about before she could crash into one of the walls. Only then could she control her movements, getting into the last pod. Watching the ship drift away, its nacelles dark, a lifeless husk. The waiting.
The waiting.Shaking her head, Cara forced a small smile onto her face. "Aye, Cap'in. Ah truly do hope tha's th'case." The smile didn't reach her eyes, of course, but she did hope that this would be the case. That they wouldn't suffer such a fate on this mission. Av'ing one ship dye around me was 'ore than enough."Truth be told Ah can hardly believe that Ah'm on sooch a ship. Ah've only seen but a'bit, yet, she's ah thing a'beauty." This was a subject she could talk on, and she flushed just a little bit as she admitted, "Ah may 'ave, just mahybe, pesterd th'pilot int'a givin' me ah proper fly by before we docked. Mahybe." She gave the Captain something of a conspiratorial look, before the Captain punched in the access code the the sensor array. "Ah sweet Jay-sus" she breathed out in pure awe. The smile blossomed right back onto her face, and this time it lit her up as bright as a star. She practically glowed with delight. "Hullo mah sweet bairn's. ". Cara walked right past the Captain, stopping just short of the console and its raw feed. Her fingers reached out, almost touching the monitor. She started to trace a flow of background radiation across the display, fingers twitching up and down with the readout. "Delta ahnd gah-ma levels at normahl. Alpha rays are a wee bit high but nothing ye can't handle," she noted, translating the data with relative ease. She frowned, leaned forward a bit, and then felt her eyebrows rise up. "Blimey, ah dinnae know we could get tha'fine a'detail fer warp particles. Did th'bloomin' Vulcan's finally share tha'algorithm? " Belatedly she realized that Commander Saugn had asked her a question, and she turned around sheepishly. Rubbing the back of her head like a child caught pilfering from the cookie jar, Cara looked back up at the taller woman, cheeks pink once more. "Ah, aye, Cap'in. Needless ta'say, Ah think these 'ere are right beautes." Ah why'd ye have to go and use tha' word, ye bloody fool. Now yer' thinkin' ah other beauties. Git.

[ L'thm K'vai T'Lem | Main Bridge | NX-04 Discovery | Earth Drydock 2 ] attn: multificionado As the human woman spoke, T'Lem could not help but give her an odd look. It seemed like she was switching languages mid-sentence quite a bit, or at least saying some things in one language and some details in another. T'Lem counted herself lucky that as a member of the Interspecies Medical Exchange she had been given a universal translator, the bulk of which she kept in a pocket, but it was synced to an earpiece. " I'm just killing some time before we launch. I figured a walk would do me some good, but if you need a medical check-up I'd be happy to give you one," she said with a smile that was like sunshine. " I mean we have all the stuff in Sickbay and it wouldn't take very long." In all actuality, she was dying to do something, anything, and doing a quick medical check would kill plenty of time, and if she ran some extra tests it would kill even more time. And then maybe she'd have something else to do.
[ Olivia Saugn | Sensor Control | NX-04 Discovery | Earth Drydock 2 ] attn: brutus As she watched the young scientist gaze in awe at the data feed, Olivia could not help but smile. It seemed like the ghost of the past had fled from her and she was caught up in the latest and greatest technology the fleet had to offer. " Actually the system dynamic algorithm is Xindi and the sensor array upgrades are 100% Earth," she said softly. " We managed to trade for a lot of things after the conflict ended. Our new shields are of a more Vulcan design, though they did not give us much. The new phasers are in line with current Andorian designs. And the upgraded hull plating is mostly thanks to the Tellerites. This ship has been rebuilt with technology and know-how from almost a hundred different planets. All streamlined and reworked until it has become something all unto itself." " With the Romulans bearing down on us we have actually made great strides in convincing others to help us. Thank goodness Jonathan is still out there, making peace with everyone who will listen," she said glancing away for a moment, recalling the last time she had seen Captain Archer. He'd gotten a few gray hairs, the war was taking a heavy toll on him and the loss of the Columbia only the year before seemed to be more personal for him. Olivia hadn't asked why, she didn't need to. They had all lost friends, family, lovers, and so much more since the damn war had started. " Given our current situation, we need all the help we can get." She forced a smile, putting away her own troubled thoughts. " But for now things are quieter, we can focus on easier things. No need to stress about Romulans when we have a research outpost that needs us. At the very least we know it's not Romulans there. Romulans aren't big and furry." She stopped herself, realizing she had let something slip. She intended to keep what she knew under her hat until the briefing. She didn't even know how accurate the report she had was. She didn't want to go into details without confirmation. She quickly made it a point to move forward. " And then who knows what we'll be doing. Personally, I'm all for getting some exploring done. These ships weren't built for war after all. She might be capable of it," Olivia extended a hand and touched the bulkhead gingerly, " but she's not meant for it. We used to have a more noble purpose for her. Discovery was built to discover new places, new lifeforms, and new civilizations. A ship of peace not meant for war." She gave an awkward smile as she blushed slightly. "Sorry, I'm getting a little to poetic, aren't I?"

[ Ens. Cara Siobhan Ross | NX-04 Discovery | Earth Drydock 2 ] Attn: AbsintheThe redhead's gaze shot up to meet Cmdr. Saugn's eyes, with surprise clear on her own face. The brief war between the Xindi and Earth, such as it was - had ended a few years back. Animosity still ran deep in the hearts of many people that had suffered at the hands of the Xindi attack, when they had sent their prototype weapon to Earth. The blow they had dealt hand been horrifying, and the Planet still bore the scars of the atrocity. Florida, Cuba, and other places had been permanently altered. And the loss of life was intense. That Captain Archer and his Enterprise crew had resolved the conflict was of course a good thing, and peace now existed between the Xindi species and Earth, at least on paper, Cara was completely shocked to learn that the Xindi had shared certain technological knowledge with Earth. Holy shit, she thought, turning her gaze back to the read out and running a hand over her jaw and chin, covering her mouth for a moment. The captain had continued on, while Cara marveled at the smorgasbord of technology at their disposal. But now Commander Saugn was indeed waxing poetic, on the subject of a ship of discovery not being a war vessel. "Well Ah'll be." she finally said aloud, shaking her head slightly. It wasn't her place to agree with her CO that the later was rambling on a bit. Especially given that she herself agreed with Olivia's opinion. The diminutive red head was lock and step in line with her Captain when it came to the true purpose of Starfleet. She privately marveled at the way the tall woman referred to the famed Captain Archer, but here too, she felt she had no room to comment. She'd only ever seen recorded speeches from the man. Though she had attended a linguistics lecture by Hoshi Sato during one of Enterprise's stop overs at Earth, while she herself was still at the Academy. "Considering everything tha's goin' on, Ah'll admit that Ah'd much rather be exploring this great big vacuum we all spin through than ah'd be fight'en the boogy men tha' seem to be plaguing our every move." The back of her mind had already cataloged the fact that whomever was raiding this research outpost they were supposed to go support, they were covered in fur. While the Captain was, of course, right at by all reports the bloody Romulan's did not leave fur behind, that did not necessarily preclude the possibility that whatever had been spotted at wherever they were going, and reported by whoever they were supposed to meet, was not, in fact, a proxy client of the Romulan's. Every report she'd read said the vicious warriors were sly bastards, and perfectly capable of sending someone else to do their dirty work. Tha's right neahboorly of th'Xindi, iddin' it?" Cara brought them back to the earlier topic, the impressive design of the refit NX class, and the efforts that had gone into it, to integrate alien technology into the vessel. She felt a new appreciation for the ship that she was going to be working on going forward. "We 'ave Xindi scanners, Vulcan shields, Andorian phasers, and Tellerite hull platin', all wrapped together with human ingenuity, and duct tape, ah'll wager." If there was one thing that she knew every engineer in the fleet carried in their tool kits, it was a trusted roll of duct tape. "Just ah, promise me, Cap'in, that the food re-sequencers aren't Klingon?" Cara asked after a moments reflection, just a trace of worry in her voice. She didn't think that they'd actually use Klingon re-sequencers, but she worried all the same...

[ Olivia Saugn | Sensor Control | NX-04 Discovery | Earth Drydock 2 ] attn: brutus At the sight of the unease of the younger woman, Olivia could not help but note it was the Xindi that were brought up first. At least the young scientist didn't seem too off-put by it. Olivia knew better than to mention the logistics of the data exchange. They could not expect the Windi to trade with them, if they were not about to trade with the Xindi. Starfleet reasoned that trade would foster communication and communication would bring lasting peace. Peace meant data was flowing both ways and like a number of species flocking to the new Coalition of Planets it was likely a number of new technology would be introduced into Starfleet in the coming years. She did not doubt that soon enough the Discovery as she was would be seen as an antique of a bygone era. But that was how the future worked. It often left some of the most cutting edge things in the dust very quickly. All the same, she could not help but smile at the declaration of the young officer that she did want to be out there exploring. It was what Olivia had signed up for and she was willing to bet it was the same thing that drove the other woman to do it. A brief moment of a new kind of lust filled Olivia. She couldn't help it, but the excitement and desire to explore made Olivia look at her less as some new toy to play with, and more as a woman. Olivia was fond of both, toys to play with, and women to love. She'd never admit to using people like that, it was a dirty secret only a few ever found out. She could be as cold as a shard of ice in space if she felt like it, especially when she was cutting someone off. It was a coldness she almost hoped burned her ex-wife when they stopped talking. " No, the food sequencers are built by us 100%," Olivia said with a laugh, pushing her lustful thoughts out of her mind. " In fact, I'd wager more than 80% of the technology on this ship is pure Starfleet knowhow. The fact we had any help at all is a minor diplomatic miracle." She smiled as the memory of dozens of forms on her desk about what various species were offering, some helpful, some more like veiled threats. And the fact they had fit it all together was amazing. But the design of the ship meant rejecting a lot of offers. There had even been a rumor some Vulcan with a warp ring ship had offered the warp ring to them. The offer was politely declined.

[ Ens. Cara Siobhan Ross | NX-04 Discovery | Earth Drydock 2 ] Attn: Absinthe For just a brief moment, it felt to Cara as if she were suddenly exposed to the Commander. Something about the woman's gaze seemed to size her up and find her...what? She couldn't quite put a finger on it. Not that it mattered much. The moment was gone in a flash, and once again Cara wasn't sure if what she'd thought she'd seen in the older woman's gaze was real, or just her own over active imagination, running wild. The inconclusiveness did little to alleviate the heat in her cheeks, but the Captains next words brought a smile to her face all the same. "Mah Stoomach thank's ye, and whomever designed th'sequencers kindly, Cap'in. Ah dinnae want to t'try Kling'n food." She shuddered. "Ah love a good haggis, but ah'least we make sure th'sheep is dead, and we cook et. Ah hear tell the Kling'ns prefer their food wigglin' and ahlive." She shook her head and laughed, , reaching out and running her hand over one of the sensor displays again, as if marveling the fact that this was augmented by alien tech. Let alone, Xindi tech. She spun in place for a moment, taking the compartment in, and breathing deep, looking for that 'new car' smell. Satisfied, she spun around again to face the Captain, and clasped her hands behind her back, bobbing up and down on her heels, the enthusaism welling up once more. "Ah kno' there were some...shall we say push back to Th'Coalition o'Planets tha' we signed on to, but do yee think, Cap'n, tha'we'll be seeing more support in tha' future? Access to maybe say, star charts from Coridan, or th'Tellerites? Orion Tradin' routes?" She paused and frowned. "Ah've 'eard things aboot them too. Mahght be helpful to know where they trades so we can steer clear."

[ Olivia Saugn | Sensor Control | NX-04 Discovery | Earth Drydock 2 ] attn: brutus At the topic of what Olivia would call more " ethnic foods," Olivia could not help but raise an eyebrow. " Well, our protein resequencer it a marvel, but I am not certain it has the ability to make something as complex as haggis, at least I presume it is a bit too complicated to come out of a 1.5 cm tube," The protein resequencer could do a lot, but it was limited in scope and scale of food it could make. The chef had a bigger one in the galley. She was pretty sure the specs on that would be a higher grade, but she had no clue how complex of dishes it could make. " As for more data like Starcharts, Starfleet has rejected several of them. I think the plan is to do a lot of our own charting. I know that the Tellarites offered several that didn't quite line up. It seems like sensor telemetry plays a big role in it. I'm not sure of the specifics, but in the end, it was decided to keep our own Starcharts and expand on them ourselves until a universal standard for measurements is agreed upon by the different species. Given how long it took Earth to agree on one, I don't think we'll get them any time soon." Olivia found herself saying a bit too much. It was amazing how easy it was for a pretty face to pull details out of her, and she wanted to prove how in the loop she was on all the big diplomatic things going on. She was now the Captain of one of the most powerful ships in the fleet, so she did get quite a bit of tidbits coming across her desk. " As for groups against the Coalition, I'd rather not speculate too much. It hasn't been that long since Terra Prime did what Terra Prime did, so it's hard to say who is in favor of this and who will stand in our way. They had members who were also involved in Starfleet. I can't even be sure they aren't still lingering about," Olivia went on, frowning slightly. " It's why this ship is likely to prove controversial. We're not standing on our own, we have had others help us. Some don't like that. Some people fear someone is going to call a debt."

[ Ens. Cara Siobhan Ross | NX-04 Discovery | Earth Drydock 2 ] Attn: Absinthe The scientist in Cara found herself appreciating Starfleet's foresight once she realized the issues with some of the offered alien star charts. Not that she still wouldn't mind getting her hands on some, if only for comparisons, but she could respect the decision. Math might be a universal language - 2 + 2 would always equal 4 - but things got muddled with 'dialects' got involved. Four what, one might ask? The difference between a kilometer and a mile, or whatever unit of measurement was used by the Tellerites could play merry havoc. Ah do wonder if they'll evar settle on ah standard among the Coalition members, she thought to herself, chewing the idea around in her mind. She of course would prefer the metric standard adopted by the United Earth and her colonies, but imagined that Androians would likely prefer their own units of measurement. As too would the Tellerites, the Vulcans....the list went on and on. It was enough to give her a headache - and make her very glad indeed that it wasn't her basket of worms to deal with. Or was it a bucket? Can? Ah can never remember th'damned saying. "Ack, Terra Prime," Cara said, pulling a face, just as one might expect. She'd read the news reports in the wake of the incident years ago, when John Paxton had made his move. And she remembered how the folks back home talked about him, at the time...and later on. "As ye say, Cap'n, tha' wasn't terribly long ago ah all. Ah fear yer likely right aboot the negative reception we'll be garnerin' for havin' taken ahdvantage of some of our newfound friends offers." She gave a small shrug, and quietly added, "Which Ahmerican was it that cautioned to stay out of Foreign entanglements? Somethin' akin' ta 400 years ago or some such? He mah'tve had some wisdom, tha'one. Save for the fact it's ah big world out there and havin' friends is nice."Belatedly, Cara realized she was waxing philosophical on matters that were likely above her station, with her Commanding officer, whom she'd just met, and whom cut a very striking figure as she stood there in the low light of the sensor room. The blush came back on full, and Cara rubbed the back of her head with a sheepish look, muttering, "Ah, sorry ma'am. Ah've been known to ramble."

[ Olivia Saugn | Sensor Control | NX-04 Discovery | Earth Drydock 2 ] attn: brutus " Not at all, Miss. Ross," Olivia replied with a gentle smile. She was known to wax poetic herself, so it wasn't fair to the other woman to scorn her for doing it as well. " Given our jobs, it is sometimes healthy to wax poetic-like about the shit we deal with. And given how things have gotten far more hostile as we continue to voyage out into the stars, there is something to be said for asking about our place in all of this and looking back at what has come before. We can't dwell there and focus only on that, but it is not a bad thing in and of itself." With a smile, she sized the woman up again. Trying to look at the whole package that was the woman herself. Olivia could not deny that she had a pretty good feeling about this scientist. She figured the woman would have a hell of a career on the Discovery, as long as she could keep her hands off of the younger woman. That would be the trick of it, controlling her libido. But she had managed it before. She'd been around beautiful women much of her career. Her only issue was the damn drugs that had yet to fully wear off. They still left her body caving contact, left her panties a sodden mess, and left her as horny as a desperate teenager. Not a good mindset for a commanding officer, but she was the one Discovery had, so she had to maintain some degree of control. " All the same, for now, I think it would be a good idea to leave some details about who we got the technology from a bit vague. There are so many who lost someone or something in recent years that it would be easy for the anger to grow and cause more problems," Olivia said with a tight-lipped smile. " I don't want to make anyone feel uncomfortable, and I know how any mention of former enemies can make people reach for their weapons or put up their fists before the calmer parts of their minds can get a word in edgewise. Best to keep those details on a need to know basis." She paused a second. " I mean it was the same feelings that created Terra Nova in the first place. I cannot... I mean, we cannot allow those feelings to take control of any member of our crew. We cannot risk repeating the mistakes of the past."

“Gracias, Senora, I’d be interested,” Raquel replied. “Won’t mind going momentarily to Sickbay. Shall we?”
It was a good idea, in her opinion. She figured she would not be missed by Major Claudius anytime soon – for all she knew, he would figure she’d be immersed by all those toys in the weapons locker – BUT not even the pendejo would be stupid enough to know she’d been gone too long. She wouldn’t take long.
She shouldn’t take long; after all, she had a report to fill out for the pendejo.
[Sergeant Raquel Ruiz | MACO Unit | Starship Discovery NX-04 | Earth Drydock 2]
Upon arrival in Sickbay, Raquel immediately shed her armor. Went down all the way to her underwear; she knew it was typical for the medics to examine a body, but usually in just underwear. She never went naked unless it was absolutely necessary.
“Okay, Senora,” she said. “Ready to be examined. Enjoy.”
And she even outstretched her arms in a jokey manner when she announced it. Her smile was nothing more than a smirk; she rarely ever smiled.

[ L'thm K'vai T'Lem | Sickbay | NX-04 Discovery | Earth Drydock 2 ] attn: multificionado Once in sickbay, T'Lem set about gathering the probe and scanner to begin the process. When she, at last, found the probe, it had rolled under a stack of data PADDs, she smiled and turned to hold it aloft. She was about to say 'Aha!' but the sight of the now mostly undressed woman made her stop short before even a sound slipped from her lips. " You're naked!" she said in shock. She quickly tried to make the observation sound less stupid. " Well, not naked, but mostly naked. I mean you're down to your undies. I mean I was going to ask you to after I did the initial scan, but here you are naked before I had to ask." And now she was rambling awkwardly. Her cheeks were turning green with the humiliation of it all. She was supposed to be a medical professional and this was getting her. " Okay, well I suppose that means you're ready to start," she said and gave herself a little shake. She had to get her mind in full professional mode, even if she did find herself looking at the woman's breasts a bit too much. the initial scan was easy enough. She moved the probe over the other woman's body at a distance of a few inches to about half a foot. The data fed into the hand scanner she held in the hand not holding the probe. " You looks pretty... erm... healthy. Some muscle strain, but that's likely from the exercise routine you MACOs put yourself through," she added with a smile. " Now then, if you'll sit down on this here medibed," she patted the surface of one of the large medical beds. " I can move on to the bone density and gastrological scan."

Raquel blinked in surprise at the nurse’s comment. She always stripped before an examination, but after the doctor called her in. Every doctor she saw always preferred her to strip before being examined. She had suspected they were interested in her because of that, but she always knew they weren’t hitting on her. If they were, she had her fists balled and had a glaring look that said, “Screw with me and you’ll regret it.”
But apparently, this Vulcan nurse felt…perturbed…by her display. She never saw a reaction like that before. And that shade of green…was she blushing? A Vulcan blushing was a first in anybody’s book.
“Perdon, Senora,” she said. “Just a routine I use whenever I’m examined.”
After the first scan, she then complied and sat down on the table.
The Vulcan mentioned she was...pretty? She detected it, even though she added something next to it. Was this Vulcan hitting on her? This was another first.

[ Ens. Cara Siobhan Ross | NX-04 Discovery | Earth Drydock 2 ] Attn: Absinthe The smile blossomed wide once more over Cara's face as the ship's commander dismissed her worry and concerns over her own words. It was a relief to find that Commander Saugn was lax about this sort of thing. Cara was not joking when she said she'd been known to ramble on. She could be fiesty and abrasive at times, but more oft than naught the criticism she had received from her instructors was that she lacked the ability to moderate the amount of information she dished out, nor stay focused on the topic at hand. In other words, she didn't know when to shut up. The redhead also had to admit that she liked a commanding officer that wasn't afraid to employ the occasional colorful metaphor, as Oliva did just then. Too many officers in her experience were prigs. As if the pips on her collar suddenly meant she had to forget where she came from, or the delightful, cultural art of profanity and insult that had graced the Scots for generations. In this at least, she rather liked Tellarites. All the same, she understood it was well and good for the Captain to drop shit into a sentence and something else entirely for her to do so with a superior. At least, on duty. She wondered what it might be like to not be on duty in Cmrd. Saugn's company. It was easy to picture the striking officer in something other than the standard blue Starfleet duty jumper. Something that better fit her stature. Something flattering and attractive. Now tha's a recipe fer desaster if e're there was one, lass, she scolded herself, even as she tried to imagine if the CO prefered pants or dressed. She 'as th'legs fer a dress, tha s fer sure. Eyes up! She realized she'd been looking at said legs, unaware of the irony of the moment, and Cmdr. Saugns less than professional thoughts. The latter hid it quite well. "Aye, Cap'n. Alien tech fascinates me, and knowin' where this all comes from will like as naught 'elp wit understandin' any of th'neunances tha' Ah'm sure will crop up. Ah figure they'll be a'mite bit figidity aht first, if ye catch mah drift." Her hands were yet again clasped behind her back. This would almost look like a professional, military style 'at ease' position if not for the fact that Cara was rocking back and forth on her heels still, unable to contain the physical manifestation of her excitement. Her chin was pointed up, toward the Commander, and her chest was thrust out slightly as she bobbed up. "Ah can only 'ope tha' the likes o'Terra Prime 'ave been wiped from th' service."She knew all too well just how untrue that was.
